Basic unit: nucleotide.
Each nucleotide consists of a phosphate group, a pentose sugar and a nitrogenous base.
Nitrogenous base in DNA: adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine.
Nitrogenous base in RNA: adenine, guanine, cytosine and uracil.
