Definition |
Combustion is the reaction that occurs when a substance is heated in the presence of oxygen which produces heat energy and light energy
|
Three condition needed for combustion:
Types of fire extinguisher for different sources of fire |
Material on fire |
Example of material |
Type of fire extinguisher |
Solid |
Wood cloth, paper |
Water, dry power |
Liquid |
Oil, varnish, paint |
Foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide |
Gas |
Propane, acetylene |
Foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide |
Metal |
Potassium, sodiumm, magnesium |
Dry powder, dry sand |
Conditions needed for removing combustion:
- Covering: Covering the surface of fuel with fire blanket, wet sack
- Cooling: Cooling surface of burning materials by spraying water or a layer of carbon dioxide
- Reducing the amount of burning materials
Safety measures to prevent the occurence of fire:
