Likelihood

8.2   Likelihood

LIKELIHOOD
A probability that something is likely or unlikely to occur.

Five likelihood of an event:
- impossible
- less likely
- equally likely
- more likely
- certain

SITUATION 1

Student A: Can we expect day and night to occur tomorrow?

Student B: Certainly we can. The earth moves in its orbit around the sun. That's how day and night occurs each day.

SITUATION 2

\(\begin{aligned}\\ \space\space\space\space14\space\\ 7\space)\overline{\space1\space0\space0}\\ \underline{-\space\space\space7}\space\space\space\\ \space\space\space3\space0\\ \underline{- \space\space2\space8}\\ 2\\ \end{aligned}\\\)

Student A: Can 100 be divided by 7 without a remainder?

Student B: Oh, that's impossible! When 100 is divided by 7, the answer is 14 remainder 2.
