Circles

6.2  Circles

Definition of a Circle
  • A circle is a closed two-dimensional figure in which the set of all points in the plane are equidistant from a certain point called the 'center'.
  • Each line passing through the circle forms a line of symmetry of reflection.
  • Also, the circle has rotational symmetry around the center for each angle.

_____ = Radius

_____ = Diameter

WORDS EXPLANATION
Center of circle The point located in the center of the circle.
Circumference of a circle A closed curve that is the boundary of a circular shape.
Diameter A straight line that connects two points on the circumference and passes through the center of the circle.
Radius A straight line that connects the center of a circle with the circumference of the circle.
