Problem Solving

6.5 Problem Solving

EXAMPLE 1:

Find the perimeter for the shape below.

SOLUTION:

To find the perimeter, we have to find the number of sides and the length of a side.
Number of sides: 10
Length of a side: 3 cm

Mathematic Equation:

\(10\times3\text{ cm} = 30\text{ cm}\)

EXAMPLE 2:

Find the volume of the object below.

SOLUTION:

Volume of the big cube
\(=6\text{ cm}\times5\text{ cm}\times4\text{ cm}\)
\(=120\text{ cm}^3\)

Volume of the hollow part
\(=4\text{ cm}\times3\text{ cm}\times2\text{ cm}\)
\(=24\text{ cm}^3\)

Volume of the object
\(=120\text{ cm}^3-24\text{ cm}^3\)
\(=96\text{ cm}^3\)
