Volume of a Solid

6.4 Volume of a Solid

We will learn to determine the volume of a cube and a cuboid using a 1 cubic unit cube and the formula.

CUBE

Through the diagram above, we will find that a cube has 2 main features namely:

  • The sides are the same length.
  • Has 6 flat planes of the same size.

Volume of the cube above is:

= 4 X 4 X 4

\(64\ cm^3\)

CUBOID

Through the diagram above, we will find that a cuboid has 5 main features namely:

  • Different side sizes
  • 3 planes of different sizes
  • 8 corners
  • 12 sides
  • Has space (volume)

Volume of the the cuboid above is:

= 6 X 3 X 3

\(54\ cm^3\)
