Rounding Off Numbers

How to round numbers:

Step 1		Look at the digit to the right of the rounded place value.

Step 2		If the digit is smaller than \(5\), retain the rounded digit.
		If the digit is greater or equal to \(5\), add \(1\) to the rounded digit.

Step 3		Change all the digits on the right of the rounded place value to \(0\).

EXAMPLE:

Round 184 524 to the nearest ten thousand.

\(1\underline{8}4\ 524 \rightarrow 18\color{red}{0\,000}\)
