Chapter 4: Writing Skills

What you need to learn in this chapter

This chapter aims to develop students’ ability to communicate intelligibly and effectively in both print and digital media. Students will learn to express their ideas clearly, using appropriate language, form, and style for different contexts.

A key focus will be on explaining information presented in diagrams, charts, tables, graphs, and other visuals. Students will also practice explaining the causes and consequences of actions, events, and simple processes. Additionally, they will learn how to summarize the main points of an idea or argument, helping them develop logical reasoning and critical thinking skills.

To enhance their expressive abilities, students will work on conveying and responding to opinions and emotions such as amusement, anger, and regret. They will also practice structuring and developing ideas in a well-organized manner within multi-paragraph texts on familiar topics.

The chapter will reinforce writing mechanics, including punctuation and spelling accuracy across various text types. Students will produce extended writing plans or drafts and refine their work through self-revision and feedback. Furthermore, they will explore the use of formal and informal registers, ensuring that their writing is appropriate for different audiences and purposes.

By the end of this chapter, students will have developed stronger writing skills, enabling them to communicate their thoughts and ideas clearly, effectively, and appropriately in various real-world situations.
