Chapter 3: Reading Skills

What you need to learn in this chapter

This chapter focuses on strengthening students' ability to understand and analyze a variety of texts using appropriate reading strategies. Students will learn to extract key ideas, specific details, and information from extended texts on a wide range of familiar topics.

Through independent and guided reading, students will explore and expand their ideas for personal development while developing the habit of reading widely. They will also practice strategies to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words using contextual clues, enhancing their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

An important aspect of this chapter is the ability to use both familiar and some unfamiliar print and digital resources to check meaning and deepen understanding. Students will also learn to recognize the writer’s attitude or opinion with minimal support, developing critical thinking and analytical skills.

Additionally, students will examine the structure and language features of different genres at word, sentence, and text levels. They will also read a variety of print and digital texts to investigate and analyze national issues, allowing them to engage with real-world topics and form their own perspectives.

By the end of this chapter, students will be equipped with essential reading strategies to interpret texts effectively, evaluate different viewpoints, and think critically about the world around them.
