A galaxy is a system that includes millions of stars, gas, dust and other matter. Galaxies come in many shapes and sizes. There are several types of galaxies in the universe. Among the examples of galaxies are spiral galaxies, elliptical galaxies and non-uniform/irregular galaxies.

The Milky Way galaxy is one of the galaxies in the universe. Humans can see the large Milky Way galaxy in the night sky because the solar system is inside this galaxy.

  • The Milky Way Galaxy is a barred spiral galaxy with two main arms and a bright, dense star center

Size of the Solar System in the Milky Way galaxy
