Human Skeletal System

  • The human body has many systems and each system has its own function. The systems of the human body are interconnected with each other. If one system is disturbed, the other system is also interrupted

2.1  Human Skeletal System

  • The human skeletal system is made up of bones in the body

Human skeletal Function

Skull

Protects the brain from injury

Backbones

Supports the body

Ribs

Protects the internal organs of the body such as the lungs and heart

Hand & leg bones

Supports the body and allows the body to move

Positions of joints Functions of joints

  • A joint is a place where two or more bones are joined together
  • The bones connect or meet at the joints
  • Joints allow movement and flexibility of the body
  • Different joints help the movement of bones in different ways

Neck joint

  • The joints at the neck makes turning and rotation of the head possible

Shoulders, hands, backbone joints

  • The joints at the shoulder bones, hand bones and backbone allow movement of the upper body
  • The joints at the shoulder bones allow the arms to move back and forth, to the side or making rotations

Knees & hips joints

  • The joints at the knees and hips allow the legs to be bent and straightened

The importance of the human skeletal system
  • Supports the body
  • Protects internal organs from injury
  • Enables movement
