What you need to learn in this chapter

In this chapter, students will deepen their ability to understand a variety of texts by using a range of appropriate strategies to construct meaning. They will focus on expanding their ideas for personal development by reading widely and independently, engaging with both familiar and new topics.
Students will learn to identify and understand the main points in longer texts, as well as extract specific details and information. They will practice guessing the meaning of unfamiliar words by using contextual clues from surrounding words, helping them build their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Additionally, students will become proficient in using familiar print and digital resources to check meanings and extend their understanding, empowering them to explore topics more deeply on their own. They will also learn to recognize the attitude or opinion of the writer in longer texts, gaining a deeper understanding of different perspectives.
This chapter will introduce students to various text genres, helping them identify typical features at word, sentence, and text levels. By engaging with fiction and non-fiction, students will develop a personal response to the texts, enhancing their ability to analyze and reflect on what they read.
By the end of the chapter, students will be more confident in their reading skills, able to understand and appreciate a wider range of texts, and equipped with strategies to read independently for both information and enjoyment.
