EXAMPLE 1: FRACTION

Hamzah bought \(\frac{4}{5}\text{ kg}\) apples and \(\frac{7}{10}\text{ kg}\) bananas. What is the total weight of fruits that Hamzah bought?

SOLUTION:

\(\frac{4}{5}+\frac{7}{10}=\frac{8}{10}+\frac{7}{10}\)

            \(\;=\frac{15}{10}\)

\(\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;=\frac{3}{2}\)

\(\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;=1\frac{1}{2}\)

ANSWER: Total weight of fruits that Hamzah bought is \(1\frac{1}{2}\text{ kg}\).

 

EXAMPLE 2: DECIMALS

Abu collected 9 stacks of newspapers. The weight of each stack is 8.5 kg. Find the total weight of the newspaper collected.

SOLUTION: \(8.5 \times9=76.5\)

ANSWER: Total weight of newspaper collected is 76.5 kg.

 

EXAMPLE 3: PERCENTAGE

Convert 0.73 to decimals.

ANSWER: \(0.73\times100=73\%\)
