The function of vascular tissue
To transport water, mineral salts and nutrients to all cells.
Two types of vascular tissue
Xylem & phloem
The function of the xylem
Transport water & mineral salts absorbed by the roots to the stems and leaves.
The function of phloem
Transports organic compounds which are synthesised by the leaves through photosynthesis to the stems and roots
Vascular plants
Plants that have a transport system
Non-vascular plants
Do not have any transport system, for example, moss & alga.
Xylem vessels consist of
Dead cells at maturity which do not have cytoplasm.
Phloem vessels consist of
Sieves tubes & companion cells.
Reason why tracheids have pits
