Translocation
A process of transporting organic substances such as sucrose, amino acids and hormones in the phloem from the leaves to other parts of the plants such as roots and stem.
The necessity of translocation
Helps transport photosynthetic products from leaves to other parts for growth & respiration
Phloem sap
Sucrose, hormones & amino acid
Sucrose is transported into the sieve tube by
Active transport
Water diffuse out from the xylem into the sieve tube via
Osmosis
Diffusion of water into sieve tubes causes
Increment of hydrostatic pressure
The increment of hydrostatic pressure causes:
Sucrose to be pushed along the tube to other parts of the plants.
Phloem sap (sucrose) is transported to other parts of the plants via
Active transport
The translocation process in the plants started from
The leaf.
The direction of water in the xylem:
Against the direction of gravitational pull due to transpiration pull.
