A statement
Suatu ayat yang dapat ditentukan nilai kebenarannya, iaitu sama ada benar atau palsu, tetapi bukan kedua-duanya
x ∈ R means x is an element of the real numbers
Real numbers can be defined as any rational numbers or irrational numbers
Not all the mathematical statements are true
The truth values of the mathematical statements can be determined
We use the word “no” or “not” to negate a statement
The negation of statement p is written as ~p. ‘~p’ is read as ‘tilde p’
The process of negation
The truth values change from true to false or vice versa
A statement “if p, then q” is known as an implication
• p is denoted as the antecedent • q is denoted as the consequent
Two implications of “p if and only if q”
• if p, then q • if q, then p
Statement : If p, then q. Converse : If q, then p.
Inverse : If ~p, then ~q. Contrapositive : If ~q, then ~p.
The truth value of an implication “if p, then q” is always true except when p is true and q is false happen at the same time
If an antecedent is false, then the implication “if p, then q” is always true without depending on the truth value of the consequent
