Movement of Substances Across a Plasma Membrane in Living Organisms (1)

Not quite remember

I easily remember

Examples of simple diffusion in organism

1) Gas exchange in the alveoli ,during cellular respiration and during photosynthesis 2) Diffusion of fatty acids and fat -soluble vitamins from the villus of the small intestine

Examples of osmosis in organism

1) Absorption of water by root hairs of plants 2) Movement of water from one cell to the adjacent cell 3) Absorption of water at the wall of colon

Examples of facilitated diffusion in organism

1) Movement of glucose across the plasma membrane into the blood vessels 2) Movement of amino acids across the plasma membrane into the cell

Isotonic solution

The concentration of solute in the external solution is equal to the concentration of solute in the cell

Hypotonic solution

The concentration of the solute in the external solution is less than the concentration of the solute in the cell

Hypertonic solution

The concentration of solute in the external solution is higher than the concentration of solute in the cell

The effect of hypotonic solution to the plant cell and animal cell

Plant cell: becomes turgid Animal cell: undergoes hemolysis

The effect of hypertonic solution to the plant cell and animal cell

Plant cell: undergoes plasmolysis and becomes flaccid Animal cell: undergoes crenation

The effect of isotonic solution to the plant cell and animal cell

The size and shape of the cell remains the same

Passive transport in organisms occurs during (1)

Gaseous exchange between an alveolus and a blood capillary through simple diffusion
