A fusion between sperm and ovum

After fertilisation

The woman will get pregnant, zygote will form and grow in the uterus until birth

Zygote

Fertilized egg cell that results from a fusion of sperm with ovum in the Fallopian tube

Embryo

A ball of cells that are divided from zygote

Pregnancy

The implanted embryo will grow and become a fetus that resembles a human (baby)

38 weeks

Amnion

Membrane that forms a sac and contains fluid

Placenta

Place where exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, supply of nutrients and removal of waste materials through the mother’s blood and the foetus occur

Umbilical cord

Tube which connects the foetus to the placenta

Amniotic fluid

Acts as a cushion to absorb concussion and protects the foetus from injuries
