Bernoulli trial
An experiment that produces only two possible outcomes
Binomial experiment (1)
An experiment which is made up of n similar Bernoulli trials
Binomial distribution
A probability distribution that describes the number of successes in a fixed number of independent Bernoulli trials
Probability of success
Denoted by p
Probability of failure
q=1−p
Parameters of the binomial distribution
The number of trials n, the probability of success p, and the number of successes, k in n trials
Cumulative binomial probability
The probability of obtaining up to k successes in n trials and is calculated by summing the individual probabilities of k or fewer successes
Bernoulli trials
Experiments with only two possible outcomes: success (typically denoted as 1) and failure (denoted as 0)
Normal approximation
For large values of n and moderate values of p, the binomial distribution can be approximated by a normal distribution
Limitations of binomial distribution
Assumes independence between trials and a fixed probability of success
